Animals in this State have more rights than our children.

mlkCA penal code § 597 covers the animal abuse law in this state and makes it a criminal offense to inhumanely torture an animal. Section a specifies that anyone who maliciously intentionally maims and mutilates an animal is guilty of an offence punishable by imprisonment in state prison and or by a fine not to exceed $ 20,000 or imprisonment in county jail and fine or either sentencing option.

Section b of the penal code describes torment, torture, cruelty, needless suffering, infliction of unnecessary cruelty, any manner of  abuse of  the animal and the penalty for such offence is punishable as a misdemeanor as a felony or alternatively punishable as a misdemeanor or a felony and by a fine of not more than twenty thousand dollars ($20,000).

Our children are precious to us. Any parent who genuinely loves their children would do anything for them to be makes sure they are safe and protected.

Imagine our anguish when that does not occur. Imagine our anguish and pain when children are literally, cruelly tortured by the other parent, subjected to inhumane cruelty and witness the abuse against the other parent, fostered by the very “system” that we expect as parents to prevent such insanity. Cruelty, torture and needless suffering are intertwined and in the animal world subjecting an animal to such behavior is a felony or a misdemeanor and worth a fine of $ 20,000.

Our children in this State are, however;  viewed as a disposable property. So we have a situation where it is “accepted” by a court system and the other parent who thrives on the inhumane torture and cruelty to use children as property sanctions against the other parent. It is “accepted” to use our children to inhumanely and cruelly torture the other parent and children by using them as tools of abuse. It is “accepted” by the court system and by inhumane parents capable of using their children in this manner that the childhood of children has to be destroyed as the focus is more on torturing children and the other parent than doing the right thing.

The question is why? When have we as society accepted the fact that our children are IT entities placed on the same level of disposable property, deserving of the inhumane torture, willful cruelty and suffering that becomes part of their day to day life  so that another generation of substance abusers and criminals is raised? Why are our pets deserving of protection under the penal code yet our children are exposed to relentless, prolongued and endless suffering and torture and the status quo myth is that this is just a family court matter, where this  happens?

It is quite simply NOT acceptable. Our children are the fabric of our future generation. It is NOT acceptable to expose them to the torture, cruelty and inhumanity of a family court system that refuses to recognize children as children. It is NOT acceptable to expose them to the torture, cruelty and inhumanity of a “parent” capable of using them in this manner.
